Privacy
ChronAlert is local-first and self-hosted. We keep this short and plain: here's what stays on your computer, what the website handles, and the little we store when you buy Pro.
The app
The ChronAlert desktop app runs on your own computer and pulls live public data feeds directly from their sources. It does not require an account. Your Pro license is verified locally on your machine.
ChronAlert does not send usage telemetry to us - it does not report how you use the app, what you view, your location, your callsign, or the contents of your display.
ChronAlert Pro does make an occasional, anonymous license check-in so we can honor revocations (for example after a refund) and see roughly how many installs are active. It sends only a random install identifier, your license key, the app version, and the time. It fails open - if it can't reach us, the app keeps working. Free ChronAlert never checks in.
The website
Like any website, chronalert.com may process normal web-request information: your IP address, browser type, the pages you request, timestamps, and security and error logs. We use Cloudflare for DNS, security, CDN, and proxy services, so requests pass through Cloudflare.
Payments
Payments are handled entirely by Stripe. ChronAlert never receives or stores your card numbers or bank details. When you purchase Pro, we may store your purchaser name and email, the Stripe order and payment IDs, the amount, currency, and status, and the license we issued to you.
We use Resend to send transactional email such as delivering your license key and license recovery.
What we don't do
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for behavioral advertising.
License recovery
License recovery uses your email only to send your existing license to that address. Our response is the same whether or not an address is in our records - recovery never reveals whether an email exists in the database.
Keeping records
We may retain purchase and license records as long as needed for license recovery, refunds, accounting, fraud prevention, and support.
Security
We take reasonable steps to protect the limited information we hold. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, so we can't promise absolute security, but we work to keep your data safe.
